This is a social challenge programme with YES supporting 37 local projects, whose aims are to revitalize Brixham. These initiatives have been submitted by local people who have a vision to make a difference in the community. 6 of these projects will each be awarded £3,500 in February 2012.
The projects are:
A Visual March of Time - To improve the somewhat unprepossessing frontage of the museum with the help of young people to design boards
Brixham Community Allotment - Bringing the people of Brixham together by the use and development of a community allotment
Brixham Community Time Bank - A way in which the people of Brixham can share their skills and experience without using money
Brixham Festival 2012 - Running a 4 day festival to replace the Brixham Heritage Festival. Running events which cater for all ages and to involve young volunteers to play an active role in the organisation of the event
Brixham Memory Bank - Interviewing people of all ages to allow for moments of the past and present to be preserved through the use of video
Brixham Young People’s Training and Employment Service (BYTES) - To provide a weekly training and employment support drop in session for young unemployed and under skilled people ages 16-24
Canoes for Scouts - Learning to build their own Canadian canoes which will help to start the scouts fleet off
Carers Together In Brixham - Bringing together unpaid carers of all ages in Brixham to benefit the whole community. Exchanging skills and knowledge and understanding the generations to benefit from role models of all ages
Community We Care - A club where people of all ages and abilities have a chance to take part in different activities once a month
DJ Outreach - Develop my hobby of DJing to tailor music to particular parties. Producing song sheets and offering my services to local community events
Douglas House Young Volunteers - A group of young people going into Douglas House to interact with their service users doing a variety of activities
Equator Scouts - Learn about scouts in Uganda and support by sending clothing and school materials; share education about important issues i.e. AIDS, sex education etc; raise funds; organise an exchange and visit community groups
Floppy Dock - Designing t-shirts that promotes some unique aspects of Brixham
Forgotten Crafts - Share the skills of costume design and making using leather and other recycled materials to be used for role play and other theatrical events
Games/Social Club - A club where everyone can go to and unwind and relax playing games. Using games to bring people together
Indigo’s Cooking Club - Young people to learn from adults on how to cook delicious cakes and snacks and then to sell them
Juicy Theatre - Running a theatre/drama workshop which will explore ‘juicy’ subjects derived from young people
Kraftwerk Brixham - Design and develop a small range of products made mostly from recycled materials and produced by the people of Brixham
Millie and Me - Building a party and event planning business that delivers a superlative service and value
Parkour Experiences - Teach people of all ages how to Parkour. Teaching the about the environment and natural surroundings
Perform - To promote and support creativity within the community working with people of all ages within a creative environment
Photo Links - An interactive photographic exhibition of the ‘Faces of our Time’ in Brixham, putting the people of Brixham centre stage
Regenerate Stapleton House - Regeneration of Stapleton House to provide a venue for intergenerational community use
Role-Playing at The Edge - Table-top role playing game sessions
Spotlight - A drama club for all ages to express themselves through performances and shows and a range of activities to help improve their social skills
The BEST Programme - Creating a successful and sustainable culture of sport in Brixham which highlights the importance of community development
The Bike Yard - Bike repair, renovation and possibly hire
The Cromwell Alert (Brixham Battery) - A project to explore the history of ‘Cromwell’s Alert’. A snapshot of Brixham throughout this time in history
The Edge Creative Cafe - All sorts of creative activity combined with reasonably priced food and good company
The Edge Training Kitchen - Providing a range of catering training using the Edge kitchen facilities, equipment, training and displays
The Tiffin Box - Small catering business, using Tiffin boxes, to produce sustainable take-away food and delivery service to the Brixham community
Yes! I Can Do That - Younger people teaching older people IT skills; creating storybooks from recollections and creating intergenerational teams to enter a competition. Offering CV writing workshops for young and old
